“Fireflies”
Gregory Crewdson, color photographer, may as well be a different person from Gregory Crewdson, black-and-white photographer. His color projects go for a hypersaturated, lurid aesthetic, but there’s something about B&W that brings out his classical, romantic side.
It would be interesting to see what happened if he swapped his approach for the two mediums. Until then, the B&Ws will always be exquisite and enjoyable.
Mind-blowing? Maybe not. But sometimes exquisite and enjoyable is enough.
